Newsreaders (Usenet Client) for Pocket PC

I am having difficulty in sourcing a newsreader (Usenet newsgroups) for
Pocket PC so I can read subscribed newsgroups on my HP iPaq. Anyone here
know of anything?

Thanks

I'm partial to Qusnetsoft newsreader myself (www.quesnetsoft.ru) and have
used it since it was freeware.

Others swear by Qmail. (Google the URL). And Werner R. has great tutorials
on setting it up on his blog at PocketPC Mag's site.

Are there any PPC news readers hat also have a desktop
version so I could learn only one program and use it or
BOTH PPC and desktop?

I currently have been using Agent on the desktop for
many years but would really like one for PPC.... but
too old to learn/use two diff apps. <G>

Now wouldn't that be a treat! I'm not aware of any but I would love to be
proven wrong!

I shall give them both a go and see how they work.

Thanks for the links.

I'd be interested in something like that too.

Anyway, I downloaded Qmail and Qusnetsoft. Both needed to be manually
copied across to the device then run from there. Qmail wouldn't install.
Kept getting errors. Got Qusoft to install but when it downloaded the
messages it appears that only the headers were retrieved. I can't figure
out how to get the bodies.

The help menu isn't very good at all and when I get directed to the
product's website it's all in Japanese or some other Asian language.

If someone has a URL (not just a Googled one) that has a proper
installation package for Qmail I'd appreciate it. Thanks

QMail doesn't really "install." You unzip the files, place them all into
whatever foldeyou want (I use Storage Card\Program Files\QMail) then you
tap on the Q3U.exe executable file to run it. (I copy/paste shortcut-ed it
into my Programs folder.)

AFAIK, there is no such installer. The program must be installed manually.

Believe it is in Russian. The program is not user friendly and the
help/manual files totally suck. Not sure why you are having an issue
with QMail...it is much better. What error message did you receive?

Sorry. wrong program. I got qu and qmail mixed up. I couldn't get qu to
run and Qmail won't download messages. I can't find the option to download
the newsgroup list so I can subscribe.

I got it to work on intitial installation, but when I removed it and
downloaded the latest version from the website there was no install
program. Rather I had to unzip the archive into a folder that I called
"qmail" which I then copied to the PDA's memory card. (SD card).

I then ran the qmail executable. It then asked the usual about do I want
to trust an unsigned certificate or something like that. I was asked this
question a number of times as a few of the dlls were being run.

Now, in order to run the program I have to go to File Explorer, then
navigate to the memory card, find the executable and run it that way. I
can't figure out how to put an icon under the "Start" menu.

Finally, when I do run it I can't figure out how to get it to download a
list of newsgroups that I can subscribe to.

I tried that too (copying a shortcut to the programs folder. However I
cannot get it to display in the Start menu or in the Programs "folder"
that you access from the Start menu.

What's the trick here?

Re: Newsreaders (Usenet Client) for Pocket PC

>> What's the trick here? <<

start file explorer, then find the executable

<tap/hold> the file and select "copy"

move to the \windows\startmenu\programs folder

select "paste shortcut"

The \windows\startmenu\ folder is protected... if you want the shortcut
there, use start/settings/personal/menu which will offer the shortcuts
in the \windows\startmenu\programs folder

I tried all this. However, the "trick" is that the Paste function isn't
available to me.

I'll give it another try and follow your instructions to the letter. That
is, if I can get it to log the nntp server...

Thanks. That worked. I was trying to install the shortcut in the Programs
folder, which is a high level one, not one under the "windows" one.

Next question - how do I get it to work, ie. download messages?
