| Pocket PC vs. Mobile phones Hi, I've an Ace n300 PPC which I am very pleased with. I use it to sysnchronis with my Laptop etc. It's also time to renew my mobile phone contract and I've been bombarded with free phones etc. The current phone I have is a Motorola Razer. I am thinking of getting a phone with Windows Mobile and using that for everything I use my Acer n300 for. Will I actually be able to do this? Will a Windows Mobile phone be able to do everything my Acer n300 does? Thanks in advance for any advice. Charles |

| Re: Pocket PC vs. Mobile phones First and foremost: do you need VGA (as on the Acer)? if you do, then, you'll only have few choices. Also, keep in mind that you won't be able to record your calls with most WM phones - unlike with most dumphones. Otherwise, integrated WM devices are pretty cool. -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it. | Re: Pocket PC vs. Mobile phones As I ask all my customers, what is it you want to do with a mobile device. After "listening" which I find rare in a lot of the wireless stores these days. I know you said you want to do everything you use your Acer n300 for. So I will assume you use it to created word docs? email, and some other things....contacts...and so on....well..depending on the need to create docs or just review and look at....that will make the difference between a WM smartphone running WM6 standard or professional. In short professional will allow the creation of documents. And as far as being bombarded with free phones.....if you are happy with your current carrier....look at the Windows Smartphones they have to offer you. If you are considering changing carriers, check around shop and compare. I can say that we do offer free Pocket PC Phones for new subscribers from several of the major carriers. and some pretty good deals for upgrades from ATT and Sprint. In the short of things.......do not rush into anything, shop around do your homework and decide what you "need" the device to do besides make phone calls! -- -- Trent McMurray LAMARCOMM, LLC www.lamarcomm.com | www.lamarcommaccessories.com "Charles Turner" <charles.turner@btinternet.com> wrote in message news:ktednSGo66QfQwzanZ2dnUVZ8qSnnZ2d@bt.com... > Hi, > > I've an Ace n300 PPC which I am very pleased with. | Re: Pocket PC vs. Mobile phones Hi Trent, I use my Acer for a number of things and have some specialist Pocket PC software installed, e.g. Audio Spectrum Analyser, Mobile Share Dealing etc. I also send and receive email, surf the Internet etc., at the moment using a very slow connection through a mobile. A very important point is that I synchronise with ACT!2008 (Sales Management Database) using Companion Link Professional. This syncs directly (Calendar, Activities, Opportunities) and not though Outlook (although I could go through Outlook). My concern was that some of these applications just simply won't work and you'll probably won't know until you've tried. The best option would be to use my Acer, connect to the phone using Bluetooth and then access a 3G connection to the Internet, best solution by far, however, easier said than done. Most of the mobiles only seem to allow a wired connection to a PC for the 3G connection (with software installed on the PC). Not surprisingly most of the shops and telephone support haven't a clue about what I'm talking about, or even trying to do. | Re: Pocket PC vs. Mobile phones I understand Charles! I is ACT! 2008?? I used it a number of yrs ago..for my company and it was pretty good....let me do some digging around and see what I can come up with. I do remember a customer talking about Verizon locked BT for making interent connection because of ring tones or something like that. I also have used several Razors....current one is the V3xxx,... Do you know if ACT!08 runs on WM6> I will assume it will since its the newest ver. Audio Spectrum Analyser sounds like it wont! :) I will root around and see what I can find. And I will get back to you. -- -- Trent McMurray LAMARCOMM, LLC www.lamarcomm.com | www.lamarcommaccessories.com "Charles Turner" <charles.turner@btinternet.com> wrote in message news:ktednSGo66QfQwzanZ2dnUVZ8qSnnZ2d@bt.com... > Hi, > > I've an Ace n300 PPC which I am very pleased with. | Re: Pocket PC vs. Mobile phones Well I did some digging...and from what I can see...CompanionLink will work with a WM6 device Since you are using ACT!08 as for the Audio Spectrum Analyser, Mobile Share Dealing. I cannot find anything on them...but will keep looking! -- -- Trent McMurray LAMARCOMM, LLC www.lamarcomm.com | www.lamarcommaccessories.com "Charles Turner" <charles.turner@btinternet.com> wrote in message news:ktednSGo66QfQwzanZ2dnUVZ8qSnnZ2d@bt.com... > Hi, > > I've an Ace n300 PPC which I am very pleased with. | Re: Pocket PC vs. Mobile phones Thanks Trent, ACT!2008 does not run on the Pocket PC, I simply use Companion Link to synchronise it directly with the Calendar, Contacts etc on the Pocket PC, which works fine.
