| Finding GPS on the HTC Advantage I have a HTC Advantage, which BTW I love....... When I start OCN6, I get the red hue, letting me know that the GPS has not been detected. What I have been doing is clicking the DETECT BUTTON on the GPS Data screen, and sometimes it finds it and sometimes it doesn't, even though I get the message GPS found successfully. Usually after 2-4 minutes, I get the green, which lets me know I have a GPS signal. Is there any trick to getting this to show up faster? I know WM6 has this feature which lets you download GPS data, to help speed this process, but I'm not 100% sure how that works either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! | Re: Finding GPS on the HTC Advantage >> Is there any trick to getting this to show up faster? << Assuming this is satellite gps, there are a variety of factors at play here including; Acquisition time... sorting out the data to obtain a fix (green hue) Antenna location... in car, building, city canyon, open field, etc Clock setting... it's essential that you have the correct timezone set Startup location difference... i.e. where you turned it off vs where you turned it on... example, off when you boarded the plane in LA, and on when you landed in NY... it's gonna take a while since the sky is not what the device expects. >> faster << 2-3 minutes may be the norm for your circumstance... for example on a city street surrounded by tall buildings... (more details please) The receivers have gotten more sensitive, but where I might get a fix within a few seconds turning my gps on one time, I'm not surprised if it takes 2-3 minutes or more the next time... if longer or locations are changed, I will go through the initialization process. The one thing you can do is to put the device in a clear reception location such as on the dash near the base of the windshield, in a breast pocket, or, if inside, at a window. | Re: Finding GPS on the HTC Advantage Since it is an HTC, you should have their app called *QuickGPS*. It using your WiFi, ActiveSync, GPRS, etc. to get a *fix* quickly so that when you start your GPS tracking you don't have to wait for it to acquire the satellites--sort of a headstart. I have a AT&T Tilt, and use TeleNav, the QuickGPS is great. I am also a sailor so I have a lot of experience with GPS and this is a great tool! | Re: Finding GPS on the HTC Advantage Along with the other suggestions, once detected try to figure out where the GPS comes in. It doesn't change. My Tilt for example is Comm 4, 9600Bps. Once you know, set OCN6 to that port and data rate. saves it from haqving to find it every time. -- Sven MS MVP Mobile Devices "Xaos" <chazperx******.com> wrote in message news:gn5Ri.125$I96.104@newsfe12.lga... >I have a HTC Advantage, which BTW I love....... > > When I start OCN6, I get the red hue, letting me know that the GPS has not > been detected.
