adapter that lets you plug USB jump drive / thumb drive into Mini SD slot?

I'm curious if anyone makes anything like this?

I doubt it. At least with CF and (full size SD) a designer could count
on the fact that the slot was externally available allowing devices that
"stick out" like wireless cards or external ports to work.

Mini and micro SD slots are now finding there way INSIDE devices (my
wife's T-Mobile Dash's slot is INSIDE the battery compartment, for
example) which wouldn't fit anything larger than the card itself.

You'd likely be able to find the opposite, however- "thumb drives" that
are, in actuality, miniature SD readers that allow you to remove the SD,
mini or micro card inside and put it in your device.

Part of my "travel kit" is such a reader with a SD-to-mini adapter inside
for moving files between my T-Mo MDA (HTC Wizard) and PCs.

Todd's suggestion to find a small usb sd card reader is the best option,
then use as many SD cards as you need to carry data... stick the sd in
the ppc, or use the card reader to read the cards in a pc.

The other part of the "why" is that most pocketpc's do not have usb
"host" capabilities, so they can't access usb devices. A very few ppc's
have usb host capabilities, and, if the thumb drive uses standard ide
mass storage device drivers, add the correct cable and those few ppc's
_could probably_ read most thumb drives.

I'd sitck with just the SD card, not only are they dirt cheap now,
but the same SD card probably can be used in your cameria,
your cell phone, and read on te desktop/laptop with a SD card
reader.

Besides you can get SD cards now that are upwards
of 5 gig.

And having a bunch of SD cards lets you 1. have lots
of room for the ppc (music, etc.) and 2. lets you take a
ton of photos on your camera which you can later print,
burn to CD, etc.

But i've never seen a way to use USB on a ppc.

Of course you could get a SD card reader on the desktop then
copy the file to the USB drive.

Thanks for your replies.

Probably for my purpose (using a thumb drive with both an older Win CE
device and a newer PC) would be to use SD, and get a SD to CF adapter
to use in the PDA/handheld, and get a SD to thumbdrive adapter, to use
the SD as a jump drive in the PC.

I think the SD to CF adapters can be kind of expensive - does anyone
know of a good one at a decent price?

Why not just get a SD card with a USB connection built in? The SD card
folds in half exposing the dongle to stick in the USB port. No need for
card readers. They are only a tiny bit more expensive. See this advert on
Woot for an example:

That looks good. I could then get a PCMCIA Adapter PC Card Reader. The
only question I have is, would my palmtop (a Win CE 2.11 device, NEC
Mobile Pro 770) work with the PCMCIA adapter? Are there any drivers
available? Otherwise I'd need to find a SD to CF adapter.

I just popped a SanDisk 1 GB SD Card into a TRENDNet TMR-41PC (PC Card
4-in-1), and put that into a Fujitsu PenCentra running CE 2.11.
Suitably boring: No pop-up announcing new hardware, and no problem
using Explorer to see the contents. I'm sure I never installed a
driver. I would be surprised if other brands behaved differently.
