Joining a workgroup

I managed to connect to the network access point and access the internet
with no problem. However I need to connect/join to the local workgroup. How
is this done?

I have WM5 running in ETEN M700

Re: Joining a workgroup

The ppc is a client only so you can't "participate" in a workgroup, but
you can access any computer directly.

You will need to know, at a minimum, each computer's windows "name" such as

\\hiscomputer

plus any passwords you need, then, start file explorer, select "open"
and enter a computer name... once found, you can then browse that
computer's shares.

No other computer will be able to see your ppc nor access it.

Re: Joining a workgroup

I tried it and was able to access a computer, but it did not show me the
shared folders.

Also, If I see the folders will I be able to download a file?

Are the passwords the same? Try the full pathname to the share...

\\hiscomputer\c\sharename\

With file explorer, you can copy files to and from shares, but you
cannot open them remotely... with third party explorers such as resco,
you can open remote files.

I assume you know that you can access your ppc's folders via activesync
while connected using your pc's file explorer.

I will give this a try.

Yes, but I would like to do it via WiFi.

What's that "\c\" doing there? Surely it's just \\hiscomputer\sharename\

The share names relate to the computer rather than each drive, I think.

Mike.

You're correct.

> The share names relate to the computer rather than each drive, I think.

I suspect a typo, Bev probably names his shares the same way I do- "c"
for the C drive, "d" for D, etc. I also use "md" for My Documents.

Or, you could use \\hiscomputer\c$ as long as you have a user
with administrative rights and "Simple File Sharing" on the
target PC is off.

Open Windows Explorer, then select Tools|Folder Options, the View
tab, then all the way at the bottom, uncheck Simple Folder
Sharing.
