Surprised you ask that Ed...given Verizon's history of having many
features crippled (disabled) on their cell phones and then not being
clear to consumers that the features have been crippled.

I know they have disabled tethering, but they aren't the only
carrier to do so and I know why they do - I don't like it, but I
do understand the business logic behind it.

Other than that feature, what are some of the other many
features? I have a co-worker with a Treo 700w on Verizon and
there is nothing, besides tethering, that I've noticed as being
crippled.

So tethering is crippled on the 700w,,,nice to know.

Many, many BT options have been crippled in the past in order to get
consumers to pay for "Get-It-Now". I believe the larger issue has been
the way Verizon basically wasn't upfront with consumers, many who are
not familiar with ineternet resources to get phone information.

I have a Moto V710 which I had to hack to get BT working. Most people
can't do that. Verizon finally had to settle a law suit over that one.
Maybe now they are being more open about making sure any limitations on
the features are PROMINENTLY displayed. For example I have noticed the
"info: cards for phones at their stores/kiosks now actually say what BT
can be used for.

Well, in fairness to the carriers, the data plans for phones are
assumed to be for email, light web browsing, etc. A few dozen or
maybe 100MB a month or so. You can only do so much on a phone and
they tailor the plans to that.

If you connect your laptop to it, you have the ability to use
hundreds of MB or even a few GB in a month. They have dataplans
for PCs that take that kind of volume into account.

The phone plans are not intended for this kinds of data usage. It
is frustrating for someone like me that wants to tether 1-2 times
a month, but I understand that many people would just use the
phone plan they have and try to bypass the need for a data plan
for their laptop for those kinds of volumes.

Agreed. I dislike their hiding these.

All that said, you said Verizon was crippling many features. What
others, because I am not aware of them.
