Microsoft Reader and Treo 700wx

Can not activate Reader. Error is :

You have an older version of Pocket PC which does not support Activation.
Activation requires Pocket PC 2002 or later.

Running Activesync 4.2.0, the Treo is brand new.

Tried Microsofts suggestion (which are a joke as the version of MS Reader
(2.4.1) is not even referenced in the MS support site)

Called Microsoft and was transferred to MS Office Support where the support
person asked "Have you contacted your devices manufacturer." I laughed and
then ended the call.

Thanks for any assistance.

I have a WM 5.0 device and it won't activate Microsoft Reader. But
then a number of other devices didn't either.

I've never figured out why.

There's a necessary file missing from most if not all WM5 devices called
oeminfo.xml. The contents vary by device.

Search Google Groups for that filename or for posts by "MSReaderGirl" for
her address and she'll e-mail it to you.

Having said that, neither of the two files she sent me worked, and I
instead used the ConvertLit utility to unlock my Reader books on my
activated PC so I can use them on my PPCs.

(While I'm sure ConvertLit probably breaks the letter of the law, it's
not some kind of fiendish piracy tool. It can only remove the DRM from
_your_ books on _your_ activated PC- not strip the DRM willy-nilly from
any .lit file youcome across. As a bonus, this tool enabled me to reuse
an old PPC 2000 device as a .lit reader. The 2000s never supported
DRM'd .lit books and couldn't be upgraded to.)

No more than the DMCA violates the doctrine of fair use. If you
have to break one law to support another law, well, I don't lose
much sleep over that.

That said, I don't use Reader. I find www.ereader.com to be much
better for ebooks.
