| Problem with installation on Mobile 5 PDA Hi, I have a PDA with Windows Mobile 5.0 OS. In the application, there is a feature to auto upgrade the application if a newer version of the application is available on the server. The application actually downloads the newer version and then after a restart, the application explodes the new cab which is downloaded. As per my knowledge, Windows Mobile 5.0 uninstalls the previous version of the application before installing it again. I am facing the issue where the previous version of the application is not uninstalled completely whereas the newer version of the application is also not installed completely. The process for auto upgrading works fine for most of the times but sometimes it fails. Is there a way I can overcome this? Thanks, Kshama |

Is there a way I can overcome this? The best way is to do a soft-reset before attempting any upgrade. WM6 has fixed many of these problems where you get partial uninstalls, but unfortunately, WM5 is still a bit of a pain to get it to upgrade apps. If the soft reset doesn't work, uninstall the app manually, then, if it fails, soft reset and manually remove the application's folder in Program Files or on your storage card, then make sure no shortcuts exist in \Windows\Start Menu. You might also look for traces of the app in \Windows itself, but be careful. THen, for good measure, soft reset again and start the install of the new app. -- __________________________________________________ ________________________________ Ed Hansberry (Please do *NOT* email me. | Re: Problem with installation on Mobile 5 PDA Hi, Thanks for the response. Also, I would like to know if it is possible to perform a soft reset of the PDA from the application itself. My application is built with .NET CF 1.0 using C# language. Thanks, Kshama |

I know there is as there are "soft reset" apps out there. You should ask that in the .developer group. -- __________________________________________________ ________________________________ Ed Hansberry (Please do *NOT* email me.
