Looking for a writing tablet...

It may very well be that I am not aware of items in the marketplace that
would render this inquiry as bewildering, however:

I became quickly after introduction to same very attached to Graffiti
writing. I hate to type, and though I could write on paper, the probability
of retention of said accumulating papers and books over the years is far less
than if ultimately converted into the computer machine.

The whole PDA market seems to have vanished; and this is no surprise: one
could see it coming more than 2 years ago. The utter intoxication that the
phone one can carry and speak on at all moments when not otherwise engaged:
though I am certain that the content of such conversations is 90% gab; having
no value whatsoever; rather the opposite: to spare a person the reality of
conversing with a person face to face, all of this leading certainly to the
end of society as we know it…. Digression is what it is but messages must be
carried even if incidental to the matter at hand.

Is there a replacement for the for example capabilities of the Tungsten C
that has a reasonable chance of not being swept hither thither by the rapidly
cycling moods of the day? It seems that while the Palm people initially
started the company due to their interest in Graffiti specifically, this
became a back burnered item, such that on Treo phones and such, writing was
not even included but for the manual addition of such add-on software. The
Tungsten C of course is similar in that it has no writing area, but does at
least come with the graffiti capability; provably put on by Palm at the last
minute to increase the sakes. It seems that ‘people’ have no time to learn
the initially frustrating Graffiti (let quite alone the second version: an
utter abrogation of God like powers to change the way letters that have been
around for millennia suddenly for the purposes of securing or some business
deal or avoiding the requisite litigation of all things that might engender
sufficient attention due to success or the potential therefore.

I should say that the Tungsten C is a vastly egregious unit and disgusts me
utterly but for its ability to interpret graffiti writing quickly with its
considerably powerful processor. But the benefits of this are quickly
annulled when one must essentially buy a new one every 3 months because the
screen sensitivity mechanism has become worn outgo or the digitization had
become impossible and is not – IS NOT – soluble through any of the so called
miracle redigitization utilities I have tried. I just write too much on it:
and it is not designed for this. Frankly, Visor Handhelds have much more
robust materials or so it must be, because their screen mechanism seems to go
on and on.. I have had 7 C’s in two years and they are all VERY CONSISTENTLY
DOOMED AS THEY EXHIBIT THE SAME PROBLEMS.

The question remains. What exists that would take its place even at the
expense of being larger, etc.

Re: Looking for a writing tablet...

All pocketpc's have writing recognition... there are at least four
default handwriting modes, block, grafitti, transcriber and
handwriting... although one specific to notes and a few other locations
"handwriting" appears to have been dropped.

In addition there are third party ppc apps.

Beyond that, there are a variety of "tablet" pc's (tablet notebooks,
slates and umpc's) which support handwriting input. see
