| Battery is drained every night Every night, unless I leave my Pocket PC plugged in, the battery is drained, and the date and time are lost. It's an HP iPAQ hx2795b. The problem seemed to crop up after I installed ActiveSync, a Bluetooth driver for an HP folding keyboard, and a Dvorak keyboard layout driver. I uninstalled all but ActiveSync. I've noticed that the Pocket PC doesn't detect some of my SD cards, but this occurred earlier. When I insert an SD card, the Pocket PC turns on automatically, a behavior I'd like to disable, if possible. |

My understanding is of the 2495 and 2795 the problem occurs with Activesync and the use of CF/SD cards. Alledgedly the problem can be fixed by changing something in Activesync which I never could get to work. There is a fix for this but i've never gotten the fix to work. |

| Re: Battery is drained every night might also check the power/battery settings and assure that it shuts down after a short interval... The "overnight" brings up the possibility that the midnight calendar update is powering the device on at midnight and it is failing to shut down thereafter... set an alarm for 12:15 and see if it's turned on. It was fine before I messed around with the software, except that the PPC turned itself on whenever I inserted an SD card, a minor annoyance (except for the two it never even detects). |

I suspect it might be one of the keyboard programs, ActiveSync, or a video file viewer I tried, but removed. (I tried installing it from a .CAB file, but never got an activation key for it. It was also around that same time -- perhaps three weeks ago.) |

I don't understand "Standby" at all, but I did change it from 72 hours once, and then put it back. At present it says 9.7 hours left, which I don't remember noticing before. Is that normal? When the battery runs out, it loses the date and "thinks" it's 2005, IIRC. I have no alarms, appointments, or tasks. The time zone says "GMT-5 Eastern US." I'll try your idea. Thank you very much. |

I'd like to remove ActiveSync, but it doesn't show up under "Remove Programs." I'd avoided installing it until I tried enabling my new BlueTooth folding keyboard (which I ought to warn everybody about: HP doesn't mention that the layout is not standard, which is a major headache if you want to use it with a Dvorak driver; I suspect it's impossible!). I've always had trouble with ActiveSync -- on all my five or six PPCs. I have four or five different SD cards, all of which work in my camera, but two of them are undetected by the iPAQ. I think they all worked when they were new, not long ago. Reformatting them (to FAT32) had no effect. The more frustrated I get, the more trouble I have understanding what to do! :( |

I'd avoided installing it ActiveSync is embedded in Pocket PC ROM and cannot be uninstalled. Likewise, you haven't installed ActiveSync on your Pocket PC. It was there when you bought it and it will continue to be there even after a hard reset. Ebbe |

| Re: Battery is drained every night way back when, I also suspected that it's necessary to assure that the timeout settings don't overlap... for example, having the battery power off matching ac power screen off settings... to be safe, make sure every one of the power off times is unique... reason for suspicion , the possibility that the system checks the first event that comes up when the time increments, and doesn't check the other(s). However, at this point, my vote is that something is running and keeping the unit on... to determine, since the device is "hard resetting" restore your data, but don't restore or add any third party apps the next time this happens, then see if the problem occurs the next night... if it doesn't, it's likely one of the apps... if it does, the problem is likely hardware.
