I just used the internete yesterday. Is anyone else using the $6.00 plan and
configured for internet browsing? I'm able to pull emails but no web pages.
Wondering if it's just my phone.

I had this the other day. Just switched the phone off totally then back on
again and gprs returned.

Who's $6 plan? What phone? Where are you located?

Any or all of these might be helpful! ;-) From "$6" I'll assume you
mean T-Mobile USA's "T-Mobile Web" plan, and from the forum you posted
in, I'll assume a Pocket PC phone, like a T-Mo MDA.

T-Mobile sells the $6/month plan as an e-mail + browsing plan for
"regular" phones, and as such, doesn't support it for "data devices"
(Windows Mobile, Blackberries, etc.)

To browse with the T-Mo Web plan, you have to configure a proxy on your
phone (yes I know it worked until yesterday- we'll get to that later!)
The instructions are at http://www.gruups.com/t-zones (T-Zones is the old
name for the current T-Mobile Web plan.) The proxy limits file downloads
to < 1MB, and locks non-browsing web use (no streaming, FTP, VPN, file
sharing, etc.) Users who want "full" web access can buy the $30 "Total
Internet" plan.

Now, why did it work without a proxy until today? Due to some
incompatibility between Windows Mobile data configurations and T-Mo's MMS
(Multimedia Messaging- i.e. Picture Messages) server, WM phones could
only send/receive MMS if they had a data plan enabled. Rather than lose
that sweet $0.25 per picture from WM phone users without a $30 data plan,
T-Mo opened up all HTTP traffic on their system. In fact, from last
October through maybe February '07, this gave all T-Mo phones free
internet access! They eventually sorted it all out, and have been
closing ports (including port 80, the "browser" port) on the T-Mo Web ($6)
plan in a few cities at a time (to reduce the number of "why'd my
browser stop working on my WM phone" tech support calls.)

I had to start using the proxy on my MDA back in April here in Denver,
IIRC.

Now, as a warning, you'll probably want to sort this all out here, or at
HowardForums.com. According to a T-Mo CSR who hangs out at HoFo, T-Mo is
staeting to enforce a new "no T-MoWeb plan on data-phones" policy. If
you call them for assistance getting the $6 plan to work on a data
device, the CSRs are supposedly now instructed to warn you the plan is
"unsupported" and they can't help you, but instead offer to bump you up
to the $30 plan, and flag your account that you're using the wrong plan
if you decline. The second "help me" call results in the removal of the
$6 plan, and the explanation it's the $30 or nothing if you want data on
your WinMo phone.

Yea, I tried to go back and edit my post with the additional T-Moble USA info
and the phone I 'm using but there was no edit feature. I'm located in GA and
I'm using an old iPAQ 6315. I've tried to follow the directions at the like
you provided but my connections page doesn't seem to be set up the way it's
described there. So, are you saying that I can still access the internet with
the same plan or has that all been shut down? If so, what has changed? I
changed my settings back in Feb when it stopped working the first time and
now it's stopped working again. What has changed since yesterday? I don't
know how to set up proxy settings. I never even saw a setting for proxy.

No, you should be able to use the same plan.

In the Connections applet, under the "advanced" tab, tap "select
networks."

Set the top network to "My Work Network," select "edit" and make sure
there are no connections listed under it. Back out to the network
selection screen again.

In the bottom network box select "T-Mobile Data" or "T-Mo GPRS" or
whatever the cellular data setting is called on the 6315. Then tap
"edit" then tap the proxy tab at the bottom of he screen. Enter
216.155.165.50 as the proxy, then hit "advanced" and change the http port
from "80" to "8080". "Ok" back out of all this and try to connect.
(Sometimes a soft-reset is needed in my experience.)

The above settings should notonly restore your browing, but also allow
PIE to autoswitch between Wi-Fi and GPRS as needed.

When I goto connections, advanced, select networks in the 2nd sections,
there's no option for T-Mo GPRS or Data. There's just T-Mobile Connections
and when you go to advanced there's no proxy settings. The other tabs like,
My Work has proxy settings but not the connections. I tried to set it up with
the My Work one and I get an error that says there's no modem connection.
This device has always looked a little different from what most people
describe.

Shouldn't be a problem- just create a new network in the 2nd section.
Call it T-Mo Data, and setup the proxy as I described. Then create a new
modem connection in that network. Select "Cellular Modem (GPRS)" and
wap.voicestream.com as the APN- leave username and password blank, save
it all and give it a whirl.

(You COULD create a T-Mo modem connection in "My Work" but the problem is
that Wi-Fi connections would stop working because they would try to use
the proxy, which only works over cellular.)

Thanks- my paypal ID is...

....just kidding! ;-) No rewards necessary- I'm just glad this might keep
you with T-Mo rather than switching.

Even with it's limitations, that $6 data plan of T-Mo's is the best deal
out there in mobile data.
