| mda vario symbol lock? I am having a little trouble with my MDA Vario slide out keyboard. Sometimes when composing an email or text message, the letters will slip into permanent symbol mode - that is each key automatically types the symbol instead of the letter associated with that key. Usually to bring up a symbol I press the little circle button on the bottom left of keyboard. I don't know what I am doing wrong, but something is sending the keyboard into effectively a symbol lock. Can anyone advise on what I am doing wrong please? |

| Re: mda vario symbol lock? You need to press the symbol button *two* times to permanently switch between the two modes. One press only switcehes for the folloing button press. -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it. Cheers for the help, I know what to do now when it happens again :-) |

Pressing either one twice in a row locks the keybord in that mode until to double-press it again to unlock it. There's a very handy reg edit to display a "C" or a dot on the bottom of the screen to indicate what mode you're in: Use a registry editor to go to \HKCU\ControlPanel\Keyb, then create a key called "EnableIndicator" with a DWord value of 1, then soft reset. |

Thanks Todd, can you recommend a reliable free reg editor? |

PHM Regedit at http://www.phm.lu is easy to use and takes up very little space on your PPC, and Total Commander, a "jack of all trades" program- an excellent file explorer, reg editor, file/text editor, FTP, LAN file browser (it allows you to open files across your network rather than copying them to the PPC first, like the built-in file explorer), a zip/unzipper, etc., at http://www.ghisler.com/ce.htm, a must-have program whether you use it's reg editor or not! Good luck! |

| Re: mda vario symbol lock? I'd also add that both apps suffer from some definencies. Therefore, I also recommend giving FdcSoft's (FredSoft's) Task Manager a try - it's an excellent free alternative. See my related articles (and, of course, the Registry Editor Bible at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/men...tryEditors.asp ) .. -- -- Werner "Menneisyys" Ruotsalainen - Microsoft MVP - Windows - Mobile Devices Please see the Pocket PC Mag Expert Blog (including mine) at http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ - you will definitely like it.
