Not a valid Pocket PC application

Good Morning,

I hope everyone is doing great today. We've got a Treo 700 from Sprint and
it is running Windows Pocket PC Mobile most recent version. I am unable to
install new applications. I just tried to download and install Adobe and it
gave me an error 'filename' is not a valid Pocket PC application. I tried
downloading and then installing another .exe app for the pocket pc and it
told me the same thing. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

Sincerely,
Anthony Smith

Re: Not a valid Pocket PC application

I was making the same mistake until somebody set me straight
here recently, so I'll pay it forward :-).

Some PocketPC applications are distributed as EXE or CAB files
intended to be installed directly on the PDA, but most are
distributed as files you're supposed to install on your PC
while the PDA is connected to it via ActiveSync, and then the
application automatically gets installed to the PDA through
ActiveSync.

If you don't have the PDA connected when you install the app
on your PC, then when you connect it later you can use the
ActiveSync Tools > Add/Remote Programs... to install it ont
he PDA.

Re: Not a valid Pocket PC application

Anthony,

Are you sure you are installing applications that are designed for PocketPC?
Usually this error is received when you try to install an application built
for the desktop version of Windows which will not work on PocketPCs.

If you are installing PocketPC versions of applications, have you tried to
soft-reset your device and try again? Are you installing via
ActiveSync/WMDC and are you able to synchronize your device?

Regards,

Re: Not a valid Pocket PC application

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was trying to install it from the PPC
instead of from the desktop. Once in installed it on the desktop and
connected the PDA it installed perfectly. Thanks for the help!

I made the same mistake Jonathan. I thought I could install any PPC
application from the PPC but some are designed to install on the desktop
machine.

Have a blessed day!
