Unable to Load Applications onto HP iPAQ h6365 PPC/Phone

I have just installed the ROM Update v1.11 (SP30393) on my iPAQ h6365
Pocket
PC Phone and now cannot instal any applications on my iPAQ using MS
ActiveSync v4.5.0 from Windows XP SP2 (fully updated). Any application
I try
to install (and have successfully installed previously) from my PC
shows a
dialogue box titled:
"Error in Windows CE Setup Files"
with the message:
"Application Manager cannot install this application on your mobile
device
due to an error in the setup file. Reinstall and try again."
The Add/Remove Programs dialogue box the appears but the name of the
application being installed is not shown and nothing happens on the
iPAQ.

ActiveSync partners with my PC and synchronises Outlook 2003 on my PC
with
the iPAQ properly using the USB.

I've tried the uninstal/instal process many times with all the
applications
I want to reinstall following the ROM upgrade without success, except
I have
been able to install Tom Tom Navigator on my iPAQ, but that was done
directly
from an SD storage card - not from my PC.

I've previously successfully installed, at least twice, the
applications
I'm trying to instal now, so I do not believe the application
installation
files contain errors.

I've tried going back to the previous iPAQ ROM version, but now get
the same
inability in install any other applications from my PC.

I can't work out whether the problem is with the iPAQ, ActiveSync or
Windows
XP.

Any clues for a solution will be appreciated.

Delete any partnerships in ActiveSync, and you may even want to
reinstall AS 4.5. Also, just to be sure, after installing the ROM
update, you didn't try to restore a backup did you?

Re: Unable to Load Applications onto HP iPAQ h6365 PPC/Phone

Hi Ed,

Thanks for your suggestions.

I've, in order, done the following:
- Reloaded the ROM Update
- With the iPAQ disconnected following the ROM Update, uninstalled ActiveSync
- Reinstalled ActiveSync 4.5
- Reconnected the iPAQ and establish an exclusive partnership
- Synchronised the iPAQ with Outlook 2003
- With the iPAQ disconnected, uninstalled WorldMate, Resco Utilities and
MyTools (my favourite applications) for my PC
- Reconnected the iPAQ and attempted the instal process with the above
noted applications -- all with the same result as originally posted.
- The only application I can successfully instal is TomTom Navigator and
that is installed direcxtly from a storage card.

I don't know if it is relevant, but the computer I'm using is a Toshiba
Tecra A7 running Windows XP SP2, fully updated.

Any further thoughts will be appreciated.

Sorry, no additional thoughts. You've done everything I would
have done (except maybe chucking the PC across the room ;-). I
haven't seen any issues with the iPAQ not working after ROM
updates, so it seems it is your PC. Do you have another PC you
can install AS fresh on and test an application install?

Re: Unable to Load Applications onto HP iPAQ h6365 PPC/Phone

To close out this issue, I finally was able to load applications onto my iPAQ
with another computer with a MSI motherboard running an AMD processor. I was
never able to do that using my Toshiba Tecra A7 laptop, the computer I
originally used.

I would also note that I suffered problems with some other applications when
trying to run them on my Toshiba Tecra A7 - they wouldload, but then not run
properly. One software vendor has since advised me that there are
incompatibilities with the Toshiba BIOS that causes problems with software
run on different Toshiba computers. This is the last time I'll be buying a
Toshiba notebook.

Thanks to Ed H for his help.

Very strange. I never would have guessed a BIOS issue on the host
PC. Thanks for the followup.
