Mass storage device support in WM5

Hi,

I've just got hold of a T-mobile Ameo (HTC Advantage) which is running
WM5.

I would like to get it working so that it appears as a mass storage
device under windows. This would mean that I could use it on my mac as
well, as well making it easier to copy files to.

There are two applications, one commercial one freeware. I have listed them

Has anybody got WM5storage to work.
I put V1.73 on my Axim X51v ROM12. I can read the SD card, but cannot
write it.
Ideas?
Thanks, mike

It works fine for the WM5 devices I had. There is a small check box saying
read-only. Are you sure you didn't activate that one by accident?

Works great for me on a ppc-6700 - It is one of my most used
applications. One thing to remember is that if you leave it active, the
PPC itself will not be able to see the SD card.

As Jaap said, verify that you do not have it on read only.

Also, verify that the SD card itself does not have the read only switch
slid on.

on alot of WM5 devices, the USB connection allows you to toggle the
port mapping, and how a device is seen by a PC, I can't say for
certain how it would work for a MAC however.

Start - Settings - Connection - USB - options

If there are options, see if it is possible to change to Mass Storage
or something like that...again, not certain its available on that
model, or if it will work with a MAC, but its worth a try.

Yep, Read only was the first thing I tried.
I'd been using a usb1 port with a hub.
Tried direct to usb2 port, same issues.
Another symptom is that when read/copying more than one file,
the copy hangs at the end of the last copy. If I turn off the Axim,
the PC pops an error message about not completing within the required
time. But the copied file is ok.

Tried it on my laptop, same problem.
Desktop is xppro, laptop is xp home.

If I try to write, the PC locks up. Turn off the Axim and the
PC gives a "write error, turn off write protect" message.
Another message box about a windows delayed write error.

If I uncheck the "advanced features" box, the PC finds new
hardware, "axim X51" then wants to load a driver...which I don't have...
or at least don't know I have. No drive letter is assigned, so I can't
even read it now in that mode.

FWIW, I do NOT have Active sync installed on this machine. Could this
be required? Don't really need access on this machine and doesn't make
sense to have to load active sync on a random machine that might need
access to the axim's card.

I've read many reports that the programs run on a particular PDA,
but NONE that explicitly say it runs on an Axim X51v Rom12.

Maybe the better way to do it is get a CF/SD card in a USB reader and
use that as a storage device?
