Unhappy Switched OS.. files and transfer wizard not working

Hi, I hope this is the right spot for this question, if not please tell me where to move it to as I am 9 months pregnant and exhausted I don't want to do anymore research at the moment.

My problem is I'm a moron and accidentally disabled RPC in services on my Windows XP Media Center OS.. so in turn nothing worked anymore. I could view my files but that was about it, couldn't move anything anywhere, couldn't do system restore, couldn't go online.. couldn't do crap.

So since I couldn't find my original disk a friend gave me her copy of Windows XP Professional, so I saved all of my files and settings and some program files to a portable hard drive. It said everything was successful so I thought 'cool'.

So I proceeded to install Windows XP Professional so now my computer works! Awesome. But guess what, now I cannot use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to get my old files back with alllll of my daughters pictures and such. It says it is named 'USMT2.UNC' and I need to insert a disk. I do not have a disk.. I only have the removable media which holds my DAT files I guess?

I was wondering if it matters that I switched which operating system I am using at all? I'm going nuts because although I would love to have my Photoshop back and everything I've been working on to make a living is gone, I really mostly just want my daughters pictures.

Please help me I am desperate. Don't know what else to do. Thanks in advance to anyone with anything decent to say.
