| Is there a way to remove a HD from my Toshiba laptop and connect it to another one? My Toshiba M35 is giving me the BSOD when I boot ..UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME ... I can't boot from an XP CD I guess because Toshiba only supplies a 'Recovery CD' which will reformat my HD ..... is there a way that I can take the HD out of my laptop and get an external HD enclosure that will let me plug it into another laptop as a secondary drive, perhaps as a USB drive, so that I could run chkdsk/f against it to try to repair any file system damage that might be there and maybe recover some files before I am forced to reformat it. I really appreciate any feedback anyone can give. I can't believe that my only option is to reformat and lose all my files ( I know, I know, do backups, but its a tad late for that!) |

You can buy an external case to throw the drive in and get the data off of, but if the xp cd won't boot something bigger is wrong. |

The issue, Chris, is that far too many notebooks and desktops (and their owners) have no access to an XP cd, recovery console, what-have-you. The only choice is to use other tools to recover, or use the system recovery CD or partition to do a format and reinstall to out-of-the-box disk content. Q |

| Re: Is there a way to remove a HD from my Toshiba laptop and connectit to another one? First, you could boot from an XP CD, but you'd have to supply the CD yourself. Yes, you can remove the drive and connect it to another computer using either a USB adapter or the native (IDE or SATA) drive interface of the other computer and the drive in question. What I recommend is this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=330089390793 [These are available in unlimited quantity ... just search the seller's other auctions. He sells them at two different prices (same item), be sure to get an auction with the lower price ($4.99). Bad news: The seller is reliable, the product is good, the price is dirt cheap ($4.99), the shipping is very reasonable ($8.99). But it comes by parcel post from Hong Kong. Delivery takes 3 weeks. :-( ] freemanwin@exti.com wrote: > My Toshiba M35 is giving me the BSOD when I > boot ..UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME ...
