Ni-MH do suffer nickel whisker growth but improvements in separator materials and design have reduced the liklihood of it happening - but it does still occur. A 12 volt battery is the wrong way to remove them as it does not provide enough current. As you note, there is a temperature limit to charging and any properly designed rapid charger should have temperature sensing. Doesn't always happen though. Some battery packs have a built in thermal limiter. |
