HP Pavilion Laptop: Turning On then Off - wont boot

Hi,

I have a HP Pavilion Laptop ze4500. After I recently added a 512K RAM
chip to the unit, it started having problems booting up (I flashed the
BIOS and it recognized the additional memory). More often then not, when
I turn the unit on, it tries to start, then it shuts down after 3
seconds, then it tries to restart for a few seconds, then it shuts down
again- it repeats this routine over and over again, until I remover the
battry. I tried the reset button, removing the AC adaptor and the
battery. On occassion, it will boot and the unit operates just fine.
Upon shut down, however, it is usually reluctant to reboot...Any
suggestions?? Thanks ! - Rich

Could have been just a coincidence. But did you try with just the
original RAM again and see if that works? Does it do the same thing if
you enter the BIOS Setup and then just let it sit there? It could be
lots of things at this point. The RAM doesn't play well with the other
RAM. Power supply can't handle the extra power. The drive is flaky, etc.

Bill,

Thanks for putting some ideas out there, I will try going back to the
original RAM config, removing one of the 512K chips tha tI had added.
Ironically, the unit just booted up with no issues. But, it is quirky
and the 'no boot' situation still reappears fairly frequently. If I
can't troublshoot it, I will start saving for a new laptop with lots of
RAM and a good processor. Regards, Rich
