Disabling/Enabling Touch Pad on Inspiron 1525

My Inspiron 1525 cam with Vista Installed. I have replace Vista with
Windows 7 RC and after getting the appropriate drivers for it, all goes
well.

However, there is one annoying problem. I have set the Touchpad to be
disabled when mouse is plugged in. When I don't have the mouse plugged in
the Touchpad is enabled. Usually, I would like to have it disabled when I
am doing something that requires a lot of continuous typing. I know how to
disable/enable it by boring down through the control panel. Is there a way
to assign a shortcut key on the keyboard to do the enabling or disabling?
That way I wouldn't have to get out my drill and do the boring.

Thank you.

Well I have some thoughts. One is the change that you are making
probably also changes the registry. If true, you can create a reg file
and run it with a hotkey. One to enable it and one to disable it.

Another is most touchpads have a setting to disable the touchpad while
you are typing. That is what I use. So no need to enable or disable it
all of the time. There is also a PalmCheck Guard setting too.

Ok, I certainly willing to do that. The problem is I don't know how :)

Unfortunately, nothing like that shows up when I go to Control
Panel/Mouse/Dell Touchpad on my Windows 7 RC installation. Other touchpad
laptops I have used had a button right above the touchpad to turn it on or
off. The Inspiron doesn't -- at least that I can see.

Thank you very much Bill. I am interested end pursuing the reg file
approach and am off to broaden my knowledge.

Well to start, who is the manufacture of your touchpad and driver? All
of mine are Synaptics.

Thanks again, Bill

My touchpad and driver are Alps and I downloaded the Alps driver from Dell.

Oh I don't know anything about Alps touchpads. Hopefully someone else
here has one and can check for registry settings.
