| Netbook delima I'm seriously considering the purchase of a netbook, with my choice basically between the various Samsung models. My delima is that aside from the larger touchpad when going from the NC-10 to later models, I really don't see much difference between them. I like the matte screen of the NC10, but doubt it's worth trading the larger touchpad for the matte screen. Also now it's more complicated with the "Go" available (but it looks to be just nicer packaging). So I'd appreciate any comments on which model actual users chose, and why. And, should I go ahead and add the extra memory that Amazon offers for $25. (This would strictly be for limited use, travelling, reading e-books, occasional web browsing, no heavy computing. I already have a decent desktop and old Thinkpad) |

Advertised as 9 hours. It has the built in camra, speakers, microphone, wifi, and blue tooth. Most all you need for casual use. Just no CD/DVD but you can get external ones for $ 70 or less if you want them. It does have a network port and 3 usb ports. Not sure why it would have that many usb ports on a netbook. I have seen a dvd that used two of the usb ports. I think you are right , there does not seem to be much differance in most of them. YOu either choose a hard drive or solid state memory and the life of the battery. If you intend to use the netbook for what I think it is ment for, you probably do not need the extra memory, but it is only $ 25 to $ 30. I have not added it to mine. Also the display uses some of the 1 GB of memory so you only have about 3/4 of the memory for the programs. |

I've got Nokia N800 Linux tablets and they have glossy screens that make them hard to see. NC10 wins on all counts, here. I just upgraded from the extended 6-cell 5200 mAH battery to the 9-cell 7200 mAH battery one of Amazon's dealers is selling. I don't even have and of the power saving features turned on and run the drive all the time and it runs about 10-11 hours, depending on how many Divx movies we watch...(c;] Don't hesitate to get the NC10! Best netbook I could find. Samsung has done a lot of extra things, too, including the multitouch touchpad that will scroll like a mousewheel, worth even more. Samsung has a lot of extra software to make recovering a crashed computer much easier and, just to test their support, I called them and got great response! A company as big as Samsung can afford to have tech support 24/7, and do. I have mixed emotions about the addon Touchscreen from Hoda Technology: http://netbookmag.com/2009/02/03/tut...0-touchscreen- installation/ Netbook Magazine has great installation instructions and pictures. The touchkit was $98 from fidohub in Taiwan: http://www.fidohub.com/ There is no soldering and everything in the touchkit EXCEPT getting the touchscreen cable from the screen to the computer through the right hinge is quite smooth. You must take apart the hinge as the SOCKET the touchscreen's ribbon cable plugs into will NOT fit through the hinge parts with the two RF coax cables for the wifi/bluetooth antennas. That was the only tricky part. There is a critical alignment of sticking the actual touchscreen to the LCD display screen I screwed up at first. If you must err in alignment err a little LOW and to the RIGHT with the touchscreen. It's surface is NOT touch sensitive a few mm from the edges and the critical tray clicking and right screen scrolling didn't work great because I had it too high and to the right. My mixed emotions come because adding the touchkit mostly destroyed the non-glare screen. The touchkit screen is not as glossy as most glossy PC screens, but there IS a very noticable reflection if you're outside in the sun or in a brightly-lit restaurant using it. It's a close call. The touchscreen works just fantastic with either finger, fingernail, the included pen stylus or the plastic finger stylus I bought. It's not a capacitive screen like an iPhone. It's a true touchscreen, so insulated pointers make no difference. I don't have it protected and haven't been able to scratch or dimple it yet, but haven't really tried, just normal use. Gaming on the touchscreen beats mouse movement by thousands of percent. Even just playing Solitare, the touchscreen is worth the effort. Love my NC10 much better than my eeePCs. NC10 is the one I carry every day. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-NC10-14GB-10-2-Inch-Blue- Netbook/dp/B001I45TA8/ref=dp_cp_ob_pc_title_0 WHOA! But, through the bluetooth headset (Motorola S9) it's perfect, as is the audio coming out of the standard minijack. The NC10 will couple to your car stereo A2DP first class. I tried several of the car stereos at Best Buy with it and it connected to them all that had the bluetooth installed, of course. What the internal speakers need, having had it all apart, is to pull the tiny speakers out of the long tubes they are glued into, drill holes through the end of the tubes that will make audio come out the holes in the "deck" on either side of the touchpad. That will turn this stupid tube into a BAFFLE and let the sound out! The design is really stupid for a STEREO COMPANY. -- Larry http://flightaware.com/analysis/allflights_movie.rvt Each tiny red dot is an airliner in this Quicktime movie, ONE recent day of air travel in the USA.
