Dell Min 9 owners: Have you used SD cards in slot for extra storage?

My Mini 9 is running out of hdd space as it only has 8
gigs

How well does buying and using and SD card in the side
slot work for helping with that?

And.... who has best deals on SD cards in decent sizes?

I put an 8 gb SD card in the slot, leave it, and use it for storage. It's
a good place to put large temporary files like movies. I wouldn't store
any valuable data on an SD card that wasn't backed up elsewhere.

I don't know, I just grabbed one at Best Buy.

You don't need a Dell Mini 9 to answer those questions. Best prices on
SD cards are around 35 bucks for 16GB and about 70 something for 32GB
cards. I never bought a bad one (except a noname from China). But ADATA
seems to be cheaper than the rest and works just fine.

SD cards are great for data. Some applications can be installed there.
And if you are willing to hack a bit, all applications can be installed
there too. Most OS don't like running from any USB (including SD cards).
So without a lot of work, OS whole or in part, can't use it for itself.

I second the motion on Adata. I own 6 16GB Adata SDHC 6 cards and they all
run just great.

We even have a Maemo Linux port of the SD card partitioner if things go
really bad. I had a 4GB card that had a write error problem from a PC
power outage. I repartitioned it with Partition Editor (Parted Magic) on
the Nokia N800 Linux tablet and it restored it to full function and space.

I partitioned it with some of the other formats, but decided against using
them because of Window's incompatibility to also load them. Fat32 works
ok....my camera doesn't support NTFS.

I have had good luck with both AData and Transcend 16 gig models.

Amazon often has Transcend on sale (no shipping, etc).
