Fixer, I owe you a pint - a £12GBP secondhand LCD cable from Ebay sorted the
problem. Thanks very much mate, and to all who took the time to try and help
:o)

Pete
Hi Pete I have an acer 5630 with the exact same problem. what did you search for on ebay for the cable? I looked and see numerous acer LCD cables but am not sure which to get. also how hard was it to get take out and replace the cable, mainly the part that attaches to the motherboard as I have taken out the LCD and tried unplugging and plugging back in the cable on the LCD but it made no difference. Thanks!

Could you tell me how you opened and replace the LCD cable ?

Thanks,

Hi Jan,
did replacing the cable fix your problem as well?

Well, I just searched for Acer Aspire 5630 and found an LCD cable :o)

Just looked on fleabay now and found this http://tinyurl.com/leeqoa It's not
from the same guy I got mine from but it is the right one ( mine has a label
with DC020007O00 on it - in fact, full details on label are: HBL51/HBL50
15.4" WXGA, DC020007O00, MEC Rev 2.1, 2006/10/06).

A destruction manual can be downloaded from here
http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-lapto...uals/#toc-acer There's a
flowchart in the manual - just follow the right-hand side of it from Start
to LCD module.

HTH,

Pete
