You may need to set the BIOS to boot from the DVD.

Or press the ESC key when the screen lights up at POST. Then you will
see the BIOS boot menu. And you can select the drive there. Although
this menu here doesn't remember what you selected last time. So it is
good for those rare occasions which you just want to change the boot
device occasionally. I am not sure if it works on the 1000HA too, but it
does on my Gateways and EeePC 700 series.
