It works very well on a LAN, and suffers a little with latency lag on a WAN. Video and accelerated game play is out, but most other office and programming things work well. You don't need or use anything like the network bandwidth never mind having access to the hard drive bandwidth. I see from your signature you have some qualifiable equipment to try this, if that XP is the Pro version (or can be hacked to behave as such). Simply enable Remote Desktop support in control panel and connect with an RDC client on one of your EEE's. That may be 'mstsc.exe' if your EEE's run Windows or a 'Remote Desktop Connect' Linux app. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminal_Services Of course, the 'solution' is to have a server variant of windows running with multiple terminal sessions, and have VPN configured to keep it secure outside. But as performance goes for me it's not a worry. It's a win for reliability in a household with many (ab-)users, and hardware requirements per user are very low. -- Adrian C |
