| Seeking laptop with 15.something" anti-glare low resolution screen Hi, Can anyone recommend a laptop model that has a screen in the 15 - 16 inch range, with an anti-glare surface, and just an ordinary resolution (XGA or WXGA). High resolution screens are great for some applications, however, what I have in mind is mostly text-based work, and I prefer not to have the tiny sized lettering that is a result of using a high resolution screen. I've been looking for a while, but this seems to be surprisingly hard to find amidst all the glossy screens out there... Any suggestions? Thanks! Stephen |

I cannot understand why apparently people do not object more to those glary screen. I would never buy one. An other possibility is to look for a used machine. -- John Doue |

| Re: Seeking laptop with 15.something" anti-glare low resolution screen Thank you for the suggestions. Last night I looked through Fujitsu's lineup and see that the S7220 can be ordered with a 14.1" anti-glare screen (WXGA), so this may be a possibility, though I plan to keep looking... Glossy screens are really relevant for laptops that are optimised for showing film entertainment where black blacks are desired. These will probably tend to be the 'desktop replacement' class of laptop - something that doesn't get carried about very much, is expected to have a wide angle of viewing, has processor and graphics supporting high def sources and the user is expected to angle the screen away from local sources of glare. For a properly portable laptop, they are totally unnecessary, but unfortunately have been introduced as a fashion feature. Blame Sony. I don't blame you for looking carefully - they are a nightmare working in offices with florescent lighting strips everywhere. Go with Lenovo, Dell or HP. Fujitsu's are OK if you see yourself replacing it inside the warranty period - but outside, you'll be stung by spares costs, few compatibles and non-availability of service information. -- Adrian C |

| Re: Seeking laptop with 15.something" anti-glare low resolution screen Thanks. The Lenovo is already looking like a better possibility. So far, I've stumbled upon the SL500, which can come with a 15.4" anti-glare WXGA screen. I'll look some more to see if there's a variation with HDMI output, but even if not, this might fit the bill. | Re: Seeking laptop with 15.something" anti-glare low resolution screen I agree with the distaste for the glossy screens. If you look at Dell, look in the Small Business section. Seems like everything in the Home/Home Office section has glossy screens, but you can find anti-glare screens in the SB section--such as the Vostro 1510, for example. |

Luckily the Asus EeePC line doesn't use anti-glare screens yet except on the larger 10 inch screens. The EeePC line also uses 12 to 18 white LEDs to light up the screen instead of using an inverter and CCFL tubes as well. And using the eeectl tray utility, you can really crank the LED brightness up super bright too if needed out in the bright sunlight. ;) -- Bill Asus EEE PC 8GB 1GB SoDIMM Adata 16GB Windows XP SP2 and Xandros Linux |

| Re: Seeking laptop with 15.something" anti-glare low resolution screen Bill, I noticed one of those Eee PCs in a local Best Buy store - it did catch my attention as the only laptop in the store without a glossy screen! (a big plus, in my opinion) Thanks dg for pointing me to the SB department at Dell. I think the Latitude E6500 with the WXGA anti-glare screen and Display Port output sounds good so far!
