USB Ports Not Working After Recovery

Hi all

Due to serious virus issues, I have had to re-install software on a Toshiba
Satellite Pro M30 lappy using the supplied recovery disk.
All software has come back fine, but there appears to be a problem with the
USB ports.
A mouse operates fine, but when I put a memory stick in (to the same or
other port), the device is not recognised.
Tried more than one memory stick to confirm the fault is not with the stick.
The lappy has WinXP installed, but I noticed some reference to Win98 at the
start of the recovery process.
There is a tools and utilities driver disk with the original media, but I
cannot see reference to USB drivers in the install list.
I have checked in device manager to confirm that USB controllers are loaded.

Where do I go from here please?

TIA

Phil

*** WIN98 did not support USB, so no drivers are not on the recovery
disc. Download appropriate drivers and load them and you should be up &
running again.

Win98 originally supported USB version 1. But USB v.2
barely weeks later became the new standard, thus
Win98SE was issued with support for USB.v.2.

Re: USB Ports Not Working After Recovery

He says he has windows XP, not windows 98.

Then he commented "I noticed some reference to Win98 at the start of the
recovery process"

The recovery process itself (the process that restored ***XP*** from the
recovery CDs) might have run under Windows 98. That doesn't change the
fact that after running the process, he has XP, not 98.

Thanks for interest - that's right, as far as I can see, the XP install
should be OK and USB ports should be active.
Any ideas where I can look for a solution?

TIA

Phil

*** If that is the case, I stand corrected. However, when I used to use
Windoze, I don't recall that WIN 98 handled USB. Maybe it was
implemented in a later version of 98. If the original poster's recovery
disc is from an earlier version, it might explain the lack of USB support.

*** I took the original poster's words regarding the recovery disc
as that the laptop came with WIN 98 but that he, or someone, had put XP on
it. According to him, there appear to be no USB drivers on the utilities
disc. That might be a clue that the recovery discs may actually be for WIN
98.
