I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction here.
I feel that I need the proper driver to fix this issue. But I was
hoping for a more advanced solution in solving this problem for now
until/if sigmatel comes out with the proper driver.

No Offense to anyone but I rather not hear suggestions like "Did you
plug in the right hole?" or "Is your volume turned up?"

PC Specs:
Sony Vaio Model: VGN-FZ140E/B
Sound Chipset: Sigmatel HDAUDIO
Running Windows XP Professional

(I'm already aware that Sony only has no XP drivers for this model)
Sony tech support has told me that this system was not down-gradable
but I managed to get every device functioning including the sound.

My problem is that the main laptop speakers are still on when I plug
in a set of headphones or external speaker system.

Is there a generic driver in the meantime to just get normal sound
functionality (nothing fancy)that will allow me to plug in external
speakers/headphones without it also playing on the laptop speakers?

I would greatly appreciate any insight into this issue of mine. Thanks

Hi Daniel! Forgive me, but if the sound works perfectly except when you plug
in the headphones... the sound doesn't stop from the speakers... well that
means you headphone jack isn't cutting out the speakers like it should. As
the jack has a switch that is suppose to do that. If it isn't working
correctly, it won't.

The solution is the headphone jack needs to be replaced. Which cost a few
bucks in parts, or over 100 if you let somebody else do it. Or at an
authorized dealership, hundreds of dollars.That is what I ws trying to tell
you.

Laptops haven't worked that way for a while now. Most detect when
headphones are plugged in and the sound driver then cuts off the speakers.
The detection of the headphones is rarely through a switch in the headphone
jack but by detecting that the headphone load is present. If the OP is not
using a driver that supports this then he will get sound through the
speakers and the headphones.

Not so with new laptops...

The speakers and headphone out appear to be software controlled and no
longer done via a switching headphone jack.

My Toshiba Sat L30 has a problem in Linux where headphone out works but
speakers do not; both work fine in Vista.

So it could be (is?) a driver issue...
