Gateway model MA3 problem

My friends laptop wont start normally and will not start in safe
mode. Decided to do a full clean install using my own WinXP home SP2.
(since my friend cant seem to find the disks that it came with)
formated the drive, got rid of the two out 3 partitions and attempted
to load OS. First try....it kept saying it couldnt find certain files.
In which I just skipped. Later attempts I pressed enter to "Retry" in
which... it found it. (supposedly). Now when I get to part where it
gives the time till completely finished (or somewhat before product
key input) It keeps popping up a window saying ........."Lsass.exe
the endpoint format is invalid"............ It then restarts laptop
and same crap keeps coming up. (and I assume it will keep going in a
circle forvever.... constantly restarting)
Is there something Im not doing right? Are laptop OS's installed
somewhat differently than Desktops? Is there something on the Original
Gateway OS disks that isnt in a regular full version WinXP home SP2
disk?
Will Appreciate any advice.

Well for starters that model MA3 might tell somebody something. But I
think that number includes lots of model numbers. I have two MX6124s and
mine says MA2.

I never reformatted the first one yet. But it came with a DVD. Although
I got a message from Gateway that there was a mistake on it and it won't
work. I've been waiting for over a year and no corrected DVD yet in the
mail. My second one I did reformat. As I bought it used and it had all
of the other person's original stuff on it.

Too bad you reformatted that one and removed the partitions. As the D
partition at least on mine also contains the OEM Windows XP install. I
also tried to remove that partition with partition tools, but it just
didn't want to be removed, so I didn't push it. It seems that the BIOS
expects it to be there. As the BIOS just after the POST screen asks you
to press F11 to restore. And if you do, it boots from the D drive
instead of drive C.

So I don't think not having an OEM Windows version is the problem. But
not having those other partitions is.

Well the exact model number is........MX6421. I'll try emailing their
site to see if they will resell any of their original disks.
(probably not.) What kind of company charges near a grand for
"disposable" laptops? Its outrageous.

Well I would create a second small partition formatted in FAT32. And try
to install your retail version of Windows in the larger NTFS partition.
I don't think you have to have anything in the smaller FAT32 partition.
As I am hoping the BIOS just has to see it is there makes it happy. I
dunno, it is worth a shot I think.
