| Is there a mono-core mode on dual core laptops My new Tosh Satellite dual core is very heavy on power consumption - over 70 W measured, compared to 24 watts by the Thinkpad I had previously. Most of the time (if not all the time) I don't need this kind of processing power (surfing, email, word, acrobat). Is there any way of cutting back the processing power temporarily and so save power and get more battery time when I am on the move? Thanks |

Are you using it on batteries most of the time? I am a big believer in using multiple computers is better than having one computer that does it all. Thus if I have to reboot because of a Windows Update or something, I can whip out another laptop to take over and it keeps me up 24/7 if I need to be. Plus I believe in the second computer being the same model as the first. Thus if the hardware fails on one, just a few seconds I can swap the hard drive and I'm back in business again. Plus it is so easy to troubleshoot the hardware (and the software) if you have a spare to swap parts with. -- Bill |
