Gateway 9550 Laptop boot issue

Hi all,
I made the mistake of upgrading the bios on this laptop and now the box
is dead.
I know the bios has the boot-block recovery built-in and on a boot
attempt the box will try to read the floppy disk looking for a valid
bios image file to restore. The problem is that Gateway no longer has
the bios files in raw for on their site, either www or ftp.

I need someone out there that has a booting machine to come up on a dos
disk and run a bios image utility, like the one I use Uniflash, to make
a backup of the bios in a file so I can get this box back up again.

Gateway of course wants me to send the box to them so they can charge
me $300 to do it for me, they will not give me the files and the only
other solution is to replace the motherboard, kinda like thorwing away
the car and getting a new one because you have a dead battery.

I would appreicate any help.

See if the files at:
http://support.gateway.com/support/d...=21&y=11&st=kw
help.

Since it's still trying to read the floppy drive a second try might fix the
problem.

It does mention that the upgrade will fail if the floppy diskette was
formatted using Windows 2000, NT, or XP. They suggest using an actual IBM
formatted floppy (as in a new preformatted floppy).

Re: Gateway 9550 Laptop boot issue

Thanks for the response but I have already tried that file, that is the
one I was talking about from Gateway. It requires an operating system to
be loaded, ie: msdos boot to command line.
The file is an executable file and will not work here, the firmware in
the machine boot bios is looking for a raw bios image file which is
imbeded in the executable file from Gatweway, I need the raw image of
the bios.

It looks like the only way I will get this is that someone with a
running 9550 will run the utility to create the file from the bios in
the machine.

I have raw images of all my machines for backups here, my mistake that
I did not make one for this machine.
