Are these burnt CD-R or CD-RW? Or just plain data CDs? Do the CDs have scratches or are they somehow dirty? Can the same CDs be read in other computers/drives? Sometimes it helps to update the firmware of the CD drive. Yet this might be difficult with a slimline laptop drive. Which CD drive has your Lifebook built in? Or you have to clean the lense of the drive itself. You can use a cotton swab and some alcohol for this. Andreas |

| Re: My Lifebook Doesn't Read All Cd Roms Dear Andreas Schulze-Bäing, Many thanks for your reply. The CDs that my computer can;t read, can be read on other computers. The CDs aren't dirty or scratched. They are just ordinary burnt CD-Rs and CD-RWs. My computer did read a set-up CD (from a stockmarket trading company) however, other similar CDs cannot be read. I do mess around behind the scenes of my computer at times and I feel that I may have inadvertently made a setting that I shouldn't have made. I think this because my computer reads all music CDs. Regards, Allan |

Which model is the laptop and the CD drive? > My computer did read a set-up CD (from a stockmarket trading company) > however, other similar CDs cannot be read. Normal non-burnt data CDs are usually less of a problem. Do you have problems with burnt Audio CDs? > I do mess around behind the scenes of my computer at times and I feel > that I may have inadvertently made a setting that I shouldn't have made. > I think this because my computer reads all music CDs. You can try starting a system from CD using BartPE http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ The Ultimate Boot CD A CD based Linux http://www.knoppix.net/ http://www.ubuntu.com/ If any of these CDs does load, it's most likely a software/OS issue. Maybe it helps to set the computer back to an earlier setup using system restore in case you use Windows as an OS? Andreas |

Unfortunately, there are still a lot of people who don't know that you shouldn't packet-write CDs that you plan to share. Ciao . . . Usually DVDs are the problem though, not CDs. |
