| What RAM for Dell latitude C600? I've just bought a Dell Latitude C600 laptop. It has 384MB RAM installed (x1 256 SODIMM, x1 128 SODIMM). I want to replace the 128MB module with a 256MB module to take it to the max. However varous sites give conflicting information re: PC100, PC133 144pin SDRAM SODIMM. Which module is suitable for this laptop? Or can I use a PC133 module with a PC100 safely? Will the CAS rating affect the module. (Some say CAS3, some CAS2 for this machine). Is it possible to fit a single 512MB 144pin SDRAM SODIMM module in one socket on this machine ?? (512MB max memory allowed). Cheers, Tyger. |

Better to bring your laptop to the shop to test that it works. |

PC133 should work, but you hardly ever find 16-chip PC133, hence the PC100 16-chip. 8-chip 256MB PC-xxx wouldn't work in mine. They don't make 'em any more. There are lots of people like you who want 'em. That makes 'em the most expensive simms on the planet. I'm sure you can make a case for more ram, but my experience was that going from 384 to 512 made almost zero difference for ordinary uses. If you still want to do it, I've got a brand new Kingston 16-chip 256MB. for sale. KINGSTON KTC311/256LP Link is in the sig...about half way down the page. mike -- Return address is VALID! I had a look inside the laptop. The first module, the original, is a 16 Chip Samsung 256MB PC100 one, The second which was presumably added later by the previous owner of the laptop is an 8 chip 128MB PC133 module (no idea of the maker). The RAM is seen and used by Windows as 384MB, but utils such as everest only see the SPD info for one module, the Samsung. The C600 in question is a 1Ghz PIII model with and Intel 440BX chipset. Cheers, Tyger. |
