| heating problem / Dell 1100 A Dell Inspiron 1100, couple years old. A few weeks ago it started shutting down. It seems thermal to me, but I can't figure out why. I removed the heatsink/cooling assembly, cleaned it, applied new thermal paste, blew out the fan and vents and reassembled. But it still gets terribly hot and shuts down. After just 3-4 minutes the heatsink gets so hot that it would blister my finger if I left it there. Obviously, the heat is not dissipating properly, but there is no obvious reason for this. The fan spins well and everything is clear. What is going on here? Can heatsinks or the heatpipes go "bad?" thank you, JM |
