Errors verifying restore disks on Sony Vaio VGN-SZ4XWN/C

I bought a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ4XWN/C today and want to create the restore
disks before I repartition the disk and put Solaris on it.

I've tried two or three times, and on each time the DVD gets written,
but does not verify correctly.

I was going to buy a pack of Sony DVD's but is there anything else I can
try to sort out the problem?

I'm temped to suggest immediately returning it. With the complaint
that the dvd drive doesn't work. And would they please fix it, or
replace it.

If you can't create the recovery dvd set, then who knows what other
problems you could encounter later. The longer you wait on a warranty
issue, the less inclined they will likely be to fix it.

Thanks for that. Are machines like this typically fussy about the type
of DVD's? I can't recall off-hand if these were +R or -R, but either way
they should work. But I guess if works with other makes, that will do.
Obviousoly if there is a fault on the drive, I would like the machine
replaced, as it is only two days old.

Some older dvd drives are fussy about newer media, which can sometimes
be cured with firmware. But your machine is all of a couple days old.
And it's not that it won't write, it won't verify. I don't like
that.

I agree about worrying about the hardware but we all have had experiences
with bad batches of disks.

I had a stack of Memorex which wouldn't burn worth a ****. I futzed and
futzed with the machine and then bought a different brand. no problem.

I am wary of Memorex now which is unfair since it was probably literally
just that stack, a set of 10.

It may well be that the verify is failing because the write is failing.
