In The Market For A Tablet Pc

Hello, I just joined. Am in the market for a Tablet PC or Ultralight portable notebook. Am not sure which way to go. The difference for me is whether you feel the tablet pc's have progressed to the point of being useful in "real time". For example, are they easy to use taking multiple pages of notes and can you quickly convert to text and print out? I would take my PC to court for note taking purposes. Would anyone recommend one brand over another and why?

Any comments would be most appreciated.

Welcome

Welcome to the site and thank you for registering.

Handwriting recognition becomes much better in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 to be released soon. It will be a free upgrade.

I might recommend the Electrovaya slate for being weight and the battery time, which would be important in a courtroom. It isn't the fastest on the market but performs well relative to most people's present desktops.

Now, if you are looking for a convertible then consider the Toshiba M200 as the clear choice. The screen resolution and performance are at the top of the pile.

Good luck and best wishes.

Let us know how it goes.

Smile THANK YOU FOR "HEADS UP"

I took the plunge and ordered a Toshiba M205 with a 1.7ghz Intel Pentium M Processor and 1024 MB of ram. I also added Bluetooth capablility and an optical drive. For some inexplicable reason these "accessories" were not included as standard on the model I selected but it was the only model on Toshiba's site that I was allowed to customize. I thought this strange since Toshiba did have a model with an optical drive and Bluetooth capability but you could not customize this model to increase the ghz or ram. I thought this a bit strange. Before making this purchase I considered the Motion Computing M1400 but they said it only ran at 1ghz. If so, I can only surmise it must be much slower than what Toshiba currently has to offer. I must say I am excited about trying out this new gadget. I just hope it has the oomph I expect it to have since I was seriously considering an ultralight but the Toshiba specs seem to meet or exceed most of the ultralights I was considering. Am glad to know there is a Tablet PC forum like this because I am sure I will have many questions once the product arrives.

Thanks again for your insight.

OOPS - an "add on"

LHP,

I guess what I really ordered was the Toshba M200. It was the M205 that you could not update with ghz or ram.

Congratulations on becoming a Tablet PC Owner. You'll love it. I've played with the M200 for a little bit and really enjoyed the performance.

Let us know when it arrives - and remember - with the convertible models you can start out using it comfortably in the notebook mode as you discover new things to do with the EMR pen.
