| -delurk Hello! Hopefully my Fujitsu Styistic 5010D will arrive any day now. This is the first complete computer I've bought in over 10 years, normally I just by a part here and a part there. When I started looking into the tablet PCs, I very quickly narrowed the field down to systems that use a Wacom digitiser. I have several Wacom tablets on my main home system, and I love they way they work. I'm a computer geek by trade, but I want the tablet PC to supplement my hobbies as well as better organizing notes for work. I play lots of role playing games, and I already do lots of the paperwork/artwork online. With the 5010D I want to be able to conviently take much of the data with me. I was quite impressed that Alias Sketch Book was able to open and zoom around on some of my larger more detailed maps (3,300 x 5,100 pixals ~ 30 Mb size) I think it will be really cool to be able to mark up my virtual maps/play aids in real time. Sort of puts the SF into SF gaming! I like to play around with art, I own photoshop and all sorts of 'natural drawing tools' I'm hoping that having a computer that follows me around will help me improve my drawing skills. The third major reason for getting the table PC was to help me get better organized. I'm going to have to look around before selecting additional software. Well that's about all I see about my -lurk |

| Welcome Hey your idea for using the Fujitsu sounds cool. I wish I could draw. I suspect Elizabeth will be around tomorrow and maybe she'll say hello too. She's been curious about Alias SketchBook Pro. Her Aunt has been showing her lots of ways to use the Tablet PC. Buying parts for desktop systems is exactly how my machines are put together too. In fact, many of them aren't even in computer cases. They just sit on cardboard boxes. This gives me plenty of space to change hard drives, cd drives, etc. OK. I admit it. I'm lazy by nature. Again, thank you for becoming a member and hopefully your stay will be well worth the time and effort. Have a great day ATMosby!

| Welcome Welcome! I agree with you on Alias Sketch Book. Alhtough I have not been able to use it much I was very impressed with how easy it was when I did use it. I hope you enjoy the site, Mystery_Gal |

| It's here! Seemed to take forever to extract 'Washu' from the evil UPS. Alright, I name my computers after Anime characters. Mihoshi's the NeXT cube in the corner. First impressions are that it is wonderful. Outside of the harsh enviroment case it is sleek and cool looking. Like something straight out of any number of SF movies or shows. Inside the harsh inviroment case it is happy and save from splashes and rain. The straps on the back make it very handy to hold onto for comfortable writing. The zipper along one edge makes it easy to open just enough for a land line or power cord. I'm glad that I picked up the harsh enviroment case. In fact it turns out that I have an old courier bag that the system and some components fit nicely into. Thanks to the Wacom Pen technology, the pen works through the various layers of screen protectors without a hitch. I had a bit of trouble with my access points at home, but that's due to the access points being old. I had no trouble hooking onto the net at the local Green Mill from an unprotected open access point. Guess I'll need to upgrade my access points! It took a bit to convince the folks I was eating dinner and beer with tonight that I *really* was surfing the net in about 15 seconds flat from the time I pulled the system out of the courier bag. I dislike the pen, but that's because I'm used to the much nicer pens for the high end Wacom tablets. I really wish Wacom made an airbrush for the unit. Makes me really want to get a couple of the Wacom pen-enabled monitors for my fixed location machine at home. Battery life is better than I'd expected, but then I haven't really done anything taxing to it yet. Extra batteries are number one on my things to purchase next. Extra batteries and an external charger. Alias Sketch Book Pro is worth the money IMHO. Of course since I own several Wacom tablets, I qualified for a major discount on it, making the price even nicer. Tomorrow will be a good test, it will be the first role playing game session I've been in since Washu arrived. I was happy to see that I don't need to upgrade from Microsoft Office 2002, there is a big jumbo patch available to add ink support into MS O2002 products, including Visio. Somehow from the various descriptions of the ST5010D I'd been under the impression that it did *not* have an external monitor port. I'm happy to have been wrong. My technical friends think it is really cool, while my non-technical friends see it as proof that I've sold out humanity to the evil space aliens. |

| Washu Thank you very much for the description. You wouldn't have any pictures of Washu, would you? It'd be great to see one or two ... An external port is fairly important for me. I use the port to hook up a data projector. My students enjoy my inking up slides like John Madden. Only - I don't speak fast enough ! Hope the game test goes well.

| Formal review? I really enjoyed you description of the Fujitsu Styistic 5010D. Have you published it as a formal review in our review section? |

| re: formal review? I hadn't thought of that! I still feel very green on this site. Other bits and pieces. I picked up the wire stand and a Wacom eraser pen (single button on the side) Both items were less than $50 and are really nice. The wire stand is functional simplicity. It should work really well for just about *any* of the tablet PCs. Folds flat and weighs next to nothing. I've been annoyed with myself for being in a training class all week, and having left my stand at work. The Wacom eraser pen is available in a one or two button configuration. I picked up the one button version. I like it a lot! Of course I'm used to the Wacom pens and tablets, owing 4 of them. For the gaming display device, Washu works wonderfully. I'm doing most of the work generating the maps on my main machine and then using the tablet pc to display the data during the game. I'll try to take some pictures of the system in the next few days.
