Need classroom ideas!

Greetings from New Jersey! I'm a 7th grade math teacher who was given a Tablet by my district. Our Social Studies department is piloting the use of Tablets this year, and apparently I talked to the right person on the right day because there are only two of us in other disciplines in the district (11 schools!) to be using tablets. I have a Gateway and that's about all I know so far! :) I'm very excited to be using this new tool, but feel like quite the pioneer--SmartBoards seem to be what's hot now so much of what I can find online for education is geared for that. Any help would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks!

(And when I get around to looking at the specifics of the machine, I'll update! lol)

EDITED TO ADD: I should also add that mine (the teacher's tablet) will be the only one in the room. I will have a wireless "connection" to a projector but that's it. There is a cart of 8 tablets that students can use, but I don't have priority access to them, so I will only use them occasionally.

Congratulations.

The simplest transition for me was to use a projector and Tablet PC as an electronic whiteboard. I use several different software packages When doing presentations.

Smile Tablets in the classroom

I use Livenotes on my tablet. I gives some of the same functionality of whitboarding software. It is an open source software, so there isn't a copyright issue.

SourceForge.net: Livenotes

It works with PowerPoint files.
