Question Looking into getting a tablet PC instead of a notebook

I am looking into a tablet pc. I am confused by all I read about them and having trouble making a desision. I would like to see one but stores don't seem to carry them.

I would like it to be around $1500 but might go to $2000 if I am convinced of value.

I plan to use it for general computing.
Note taking, presentations, book keeping (Quicken), music, watching videos?, email, web.

Minimuns I believe I need:
60Geg Hard Drive minimun 100 better
512 Meg Memory
CD/DVD player - CD burner , maybe DVD burner
USB/ Firewire ports
PCMCIA slot
WiFi
bluetooth?
ethernet
docking ?

I have been looking into Acer, Toshiba, Gateway

Any Ideas what you would get and why?

Rick

I have recently bought one, and I think it's great.

Pro's:

- Good battery
- Powerful CPU/great spec
- Great screen
- Sturdy design
- It's cooooool
- Fingerprint reader!

Con's:

- Pretty heavy
- No arm rest is a right pain in the arms

However out of the box, I found that it BSODed. Since then it didnt do it again until I tried to run a game, where the PC BSODed again and restarts the PC. Either the RAM is buggered or the graphics card is not very well.

What i'm worried about is the horror stories of support from Acer. This is a great PC but it's crap that it's dodgy out of box. If I had the money, I would have gone for a HP or something with better support.

Ok i've fixed it. It seems that the drivers for the graphics are quite aged yet www.acer.co.uk does not offer any later versions than the one I received with the PC.

I tried to install the latest drivers from nvidia.com/drivers however for some bizzare reason the Driver setup would not detect that I had a Geforce card! I then used these (Beta) and it appears to have fixed the problem: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1315

Hope this helps anyone who may have the problem.

Mike.

Another problem has now cropped up. When the notebook is placed in tablet mode the screen flickers on and off and doesnt stop, as if it cant make up it's mind between orientation (but this doesnt appear to change between flickers).

ARGH.

Any help?
