New man to the Tablets

I need some help on what to buy and if I should buy. I already own two desktop PCs and a server. Now I am looking for something that I can take with me where ever I go. I just started going to college and I need the following:

Type up papers/reports
Take notes
Record lectures
Browse the Internet
Listen to music
Connect to my 2003 domain at home and remotely

I'm not looking for some gaming machine, I am looking for something light weight, quiet, and easy to use. Should I buy a Tablet PC or Laptop? Is it worth paying abit more for less hardware? And how easy is it to take notes such as in class or would that not work? I want to intergrate my love for computers and communications with my school work. Can I get one around a $1000 range or should I just get a laptop for around $700

Thanks for any replies,
Jeff

Welcome to the Tablet PC Forums!

Yes, a Tablet PC will bring more value to your note-taking abilities for college. You should consider the convertibles from Toshiba, Averatec, and Acer. Motion has a beautiful slate in which you could add a docking station but this is beyond the pricing you described.

I prefer to use the Averatec for my course work (reading texts in Adobe scribling notes, and creating MS-Word documents). In contrast, I use a smaller Acer for work because it is more convenient in the smaller package.

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I am thinking about going with the Averatec C3500 Series. From what I hear, its battery life is abit on the down side..? Is there any way I can buy a differnt battery with more juice for longer runnings?

The Averatec battery does not last long enough for a 2 hour class but plugs are usually available. I am not aware of any way of extending the time to longer degree. FYI, Motion Computing has the longest lasting battery setup.
