Sorry I'm late

Hi All,

I am a little late with the introduction, as I have already posted a time or four in the forums.

While I realize this is a tablet PC forum, I am currently playing with a “pen enabled slate computing device”, the Fujitsu Stylistic 3400. As I have been searching the web for configuration help and software for this antique, the friendly folks at Google kept sending me here. I have also been finding some good knowledgeable help for my device and similar antiques.

While I have ohh’d and ahh’d over some of the tablets chained to a kiosk at the mall, that really can’t give you the exposure necessary before you make a lifestyle change as significant as giving up the keyboard. At least I can’t spend that kind of $$$ while in this state of indecision. I thought I would try to take a cheap test drive to decide if this is what I really wanted. So after a quick stop at eBay here I am.

I do a lot of work on my feet, while walking, and find that a traditional laptop is somewhat awkward, cradled in one hand, mousing and pecking with the other. Trying to keep the screen open, yet out of the way. Of course my current laptop being a heavy desktop replacement model doesn’t help either.

Anyway, I am hoping to get some exposure to “tablet like” computing to see if it’s really for me.

TTFN

Welcome!

I agree with you that if you're standing a lot, the keyboard can get in the way and a slate design is easier to use. Your decision might be influenced by the type of information you're entering. Keep in mind, though, that if you choose a slate design and need a keyboard - other than the onscreen keyboard - you can dock it.

When I was at CES the other week, I was able to walk around with a slate and write at the same time (yep, even while walking through the crowded corridors). It made going through the trade show much easier than fumbling with paper.

The particular task I have inferred to is RF(WiFi) compliance testing in the locations we manage, either just after the build out, or if there is a statistical abnormality in the call center records about a particular location.

Most of it is somewhat automated, some point, oops my bad tap, and click. I also like to do some window sized screen shots(on NT/2K/XP this is the key combo ALT-Print Screen), I think I will need some sort of Macro to make this speedy.

This is of course the first step, the clear reason to attempt the switch to a tablet. I will see what comes next.
