Since George started a thread introducing himself then maybe I should follow suit.
My name is Layne and I started this website on September 21, 2003 after gathering a list of a few questions about the Tablet PC. There were several wonderful discussion boards for the Tablet PC but the faqs were spread out between several of these sites. My goal was (and still is) to put them onto one site so that everyone interested can easily get answers.
My background with computers began in the mid 70s while attending a high school in Connecticut. The high school computer lab was always filled with excitement and noise. The next memorable moments came while
Loren was building a robot. I had the pleasure of helping carve out the giant egg-shaped covering. Next, was after working in construction immediately after earning my Masters from Ohio State. While I owned a Tandon PC, it seemed no one knew how to repair it and modify it but me. Therefore, Ein Stein's Computers was created in Yuba City and eventually it became one of the largest resellers for Tandon north of Sacramento. It also meant pain and suffering because no one loves a computer reseller. In 1991, KHD and several others convinced me to push toward repairing the units rather than building clones and crap. By the mid 90's, I had repaired over 10,000 pieces of hardware (and probably have enough blood in all of them to prove it). After working for ESC Technologies and SAIC for a little bit, I formally quit the industry for good in November 2000 and started teaching. I absolutely hated computers that year
. Slowly, my interests couldn't be ignored ... computers can be fun if done as a hobby and not as a business.
Well, there is certainly much more to it than the above paragraph but you get the sense of some things about me. :detective
