Ok I am new to the Tablet world however your site looks great and I need HELP!

I have an aviation company www.steelaviation.com and I am struggling to keep track of everything. Here is what I would like the tablet to do I just need some real answers to tell me if it will which one etc. I just need help from someone other than a salesperson.

1. I want to be able to take phone messages with numbers etc. then easily place them in to a database. (just a couple of clicks etc.) Let me know if this works if so how easily what would be best etc?

2. I will not be drawing with the PC so that is not necessary or important to me.

3. I do need it to be able to quickly reconize handwriting (how quickly does it convert it to text usually)

4. I would like to be able to talk to it and it type and place items into the database (not sure if you can do this but while I am at it I thought I would ask)

5. Basically I would like it to replace my desktop pc so I would need to be able to do all of the desktop functions easily as well.

6. I will not be taking it to presentations etc. Just an office type applications.

7.The main purpose would be to become more efficent and organized, my desk has all of these papers running around with information written all over it.

Please let me know your thoughts and comments. I really appreicate your time and help.

Welcome to the boards. This is a common question - what is the best Tablet PC for xyz purposes.

In your case, the strongest consideration is the desktop replacement. You will want a unit with the fastest processor. You'll then configure it to have a maximum amount of RAM that is available.

I'd highly recommend a convertible with an optical drive; leaving the new Fujitsu or Acer C303. The Averatec is probably underpowered for what I'm picturing (because of the database and desire to use voice recognition).

The organizing part is the easiest: You may use OneNote, GoBinder, or PlanPlus to help you keep contact information and do dictation. The other apps would be a simple MS Office 2003 package.

After purchase, you'll want to update to Service Pack 2 and install a good anti-virus package.
