I have had my M200 for approx. 2 months. I called Toshiba yesterday for help with the new DeLorme bluetooth gps that I purchased. I was making the bluetooth connection, but the device would not enable. While talking to the tech I admitted having upgraded to xpsp2. It was successful and I had removed the sp1 Toshiba stack and installed the sp2 Toshiba stack then did the xpsp2 upgrade. All was successful and I ran the entire week with it - no problems. In trying to troubleshoot my bluetooth device, the tech asked if I made a backup. I did, but since I do not have an external cd drive, the copy was sitting on my desktop. He asked that I restore from the backup so that we could roll back the xpsp2 upgrade. When I did, the entire laptop crashed and burned. It now is in a continuous boot loop. I see all of the drivers load if I boot in safe mode - right up to the video driver "agpp40.sys" and then the blue screen of death flashes - not long enough to read - then the system reboots. I now purchased a usb cd drive - since it is not the toshiba, i cannot boot from the cd with the recovery disk. I leave for Europe in 2 weeks for Europe and will be gone for the entire month of Oct. - and Toshiba tells me that I will have to pay for data recovery and pay for re-image. They finally told me that the best that they could do for me is re-image. No guarantee that it will be done so that I can have my laptop. Needless to say, I am in tears and have no idea what to do. I am willing to walk away from data recovery, but I am sure that I just need to boot from the recovery disk and I will be fine. Can anyone suggest anything that I might do ? Did I mention that I can no longer access the bios ? At one point I could, but now when I hit F1, the screen just goes blank and hangs there. Safe mode again, does load all drivers, but then reboots. HELP HELP HELP !! I am desparate and the clock is ticking - I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Sorry to read about the troubles. Here are a few ideas from Microsoft's website.
1. Try to replace the driver identified in the stop message, either with a good copy from your installation media, sp2 install, or with an updated version from the manufacturer.
2. If you have a video driver not supplied with Windows XP Professional, try switching to the standard VGA driver or to a compatible driver supplied with Windows XP.
