Just registered with this site and looking to purchase a Tablet PC. Been looking around for the best TPC for the price. Anybody have any comments on the Toshiba Portege (I could get a refurbished one for $1100), the NEC Versa Lite (for $900). Now I am looking at the the Averatec which I could get from Staples for $1299). I like the weight of the NEC (2.2 lbs) and of the Toshiba (4.1 lbs). The Averatec seems a bit heavy comparatively. Would appreciate any suggestions or tips on purchasing any of these models and how they compare performance wise. Does the weight make a big difference when using the Tablet function. Thanks for any feedback.

Weight is definitely a factor in your decision to purchase. Another issue is slate versus convertible. My first two Tablet PCs were slates but I'm now using a convertible. My sister uses a slate and my brother uses a convertible. I prefer the slate while I'm walking around but tend to use the keyboard while I'm lounging on the couch.

Now, in terms of comparing the Toshiba and Averatec, please keep in mind that they use two different types of digitizers. The Averatec pen operates off batteries. The Toshiba does not. Plus, Toshiba is the LCD manufacturer too - so they have a headstart over other companies.

My brother owns an NEC but he prefers the speed of the Toshiba.

What were you thinking of doing with the Tablet PC and then maybe that will help determine the best Tablet PC for you?
