Smile Hi everyone

Just registered for the forum.

I recently got a Gateway M275XL and have been playing around with it. Had a lot of frustration with it initially and finally decided to reload windows and start anew. That seems to have resolved my issues.

I'm very impressed with the functionality of the handwriting recognition. I haven't tried speech yet.

I'll root around the forums for a while before posting any questions that have been answered ad nasium.

Welcome to Tablet PC Questions. Have you installed the Service Pack 2 release candidate? The TIP (Tablet Input Panel) is much better as well as the handwriting recognition. Security is also highlighted as a key feature.

Have fun !

Where do I find SP2?

is it "safe" to load in the pre-release version?

Ms Xp Sp2 Rc2

It is pretty stable and I've read that August is the full release target date. There are a few caveats so read the page before installing it. It makes a world of difference in usability of the tabpc. The biggest catch I found was that you will have uninstall it before upgrading to full release.

Great to hear about your Tablet PC. Let us know how it goes.

And yes, Service Pack 2 is definitely worth it. You'll enjoy the new TIP (Tablet Input Panel--for handwritten and onscreen keyboard input) as well as the numerous security features, such as a very good firewall.

How do you like the display size of the Gateway M275XL? I liked how it felt to the touch. Other than reinstalling the OS, have you had much use for the internal optical drive?

The display is gorgeous. It's just slightly larger than an 8.5 x 11" sheet of paper. Very legible.

Uh, internal optical drive?? Other than the hard drive, it has a DVD/CD-RW drive. I haven't tried to write a CD on it yet.
