| Looking Forward To Joining The Group Hi all, I'd like to thank lph for the welcome to your site. I am truly a newbie having just received the tablet PC I ordered a month ago. Am just now trying to get the feel of the thing but am excited about the prospects. I purposefully beefed the convertible I purchased (M200) up to the max allowed by Toshiba. So far I am not disappointed. Unfortunately, the equipment came with OEM Tablet PC software so I was instructed (on-line) not to download the 2003 One Note Service Pack at this time. Am probably not missing anything for the moment since I'm still trying to learn the logistics of tabletizing. The unit is a bit heavier than I wanted but for this reason I suspect it is more durable than a slate. I love the gyroscope feature, the Wi-Fi button and the bluetooth and IrDa functionality. I was wondering if any of you can recommend other tablet pc software for my consideration. I am an in the legal field so I intend to heavily rely on the note-taking features of my Tablet. Further, I do a lot of e-mail, calendaring and database management. Any suggestions you have in this regard are most appreciated. Sincerely, DR |

| Welcome Congratulations on your purchase. I'm sure that you will be very happy. Welcome back to the forums and keep us posted on how your 'trials' with the Tablet PC are going. Sorry - bad joke - just couldn't help myself. Have a great day and thank you for registering and letting us know about your choice. BTW: I moved your message into the Introductions and Greetings forums rather than the news section. Hopefully you do not mind.

| Congratulations. The M200 is a good notebook with Tablet PC features. I think you'll enjoy learning to use all the extra handwriting and speech features. If you want to try the OneNote Service Pack 1 Preview you can download it. The service pack final release will be out later this summer. |

| Service Pack 2 Welcome to the group. You didn't say if you've loaded Win XP Tablet SP2 rc yet (lonestar). If you haven't I highly recommend it. It provides much better TIP functionality and I think writing responsiveness. Also some of MS power toys (tools) make a great difference in handwriting recognition. Specifically the additional dictionaries which would allow you to add words unique to the legal profession to your dictionary. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/t...ds/default.asp http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...p2preview.mspx Took me forever to find that SP2 link! Good choice on the toshiba. Linuxmom |

| You don't say what environment you work in as far as e-mail, calendar, tasks, etc. but if it's safe to assume you're using Outlook then I strongly recommend you look at Tablet Enhancements for Outlook from Einstein Technologies. Outlook's "native" Tablet support is essentially non-existent and this add-in makes Outlook a very pen-friendly environment. Note taking is a very personal choice and depends quite a bit on your needs. Of course OneNote is a great app and has the great feature of synchronizing audio with your written notes (which a number of my attorney friends have become hopelessly enamored of). The OneNote SP1 release will seriously improve how the app works with other Office applications, especially Outlook. And Omar Shahine, a Microsoftie and Tablet user is developing two OneNote Power Toys that will allow you post information from Outlook into OneNote and to pull RSS feeds directly into OneNote. If you are used to the paper planner metaphor and like that style of information management, the Franklin Tablet Planner is one of the best Tablet applications yet released (along with Mindjet MindManager). What I like about Tablet Planner is that the notes I take related to a contact, an appointment, or a task remain linked to that entry in the planner which makes finding the notes from my meeting last week with Bob a snap. The Tablet Planner also has an e-binder that allows you to "print" virtually any file (Word, web page, spreadsheet, etc.) into the Planner and then annotate it. These marked up documents can be shared with other Planner users in an editable form or with other in a .mht or .tif format. Hope that helps... Marc

| Mochant and I have alot in common. The Tablet Enhancements for Outlook are great additions and I believe there will be a newer version released as soon as SP2 is completed. I started off using Outlook for my calendar and contacts (this is what I have always used and love it) and used One Note for my notetaking. One Note really great filing and organizational features. However, I really wanted one program that was the total package. A program that was specifically designed for ink capabilities. I kicked and screamed leaving Outlook behind and turned to Franklin Covey Tablet Planner. I have not been disappointed. It combines my calendar, contacts and notes in one program. One feature that I haven't heard mention to much is the search capabilities of Tablet Planner. Something I think might be a great benefit to you as an attorney. TP does a complete search in all documents, notes, calendar events for any specified inked or typed word and list them as an index on a single page. Many search engines only search the headers of documents, but TP searches the entire text of everything. This has really impressed me. I still need outlook for my email and still use One Note for some meetings, but slowly everything except email is evolving to Tablet Planner. One other cool feature is that I sync the Tablet Planner to my Outlook on my Desktop. |

| Linuxmon - just use tabletpcpost.com, then go to product previews for SP2, OneNote 2003 SP1 preview, TabletPlanner trial, Tablet Enhancements for Outlook, power toys, and the other Tablet PC applications. The whole purpose is to help people find Tablet software that they need... quickly and easily. Also, Josh Einstein hopes to have Tablet Information Manager (TIM) available in the next couple of months. TIM is a personal information manager that builds on the TEO design. |
