| laptop power supply questions Hi, Anyone know how the laptop power supply is configured: 1. My laptop AC power brick outputs 18V, and my battery is 12.6V. What is the laptop circuitry that manages this conversion? It could be a simple programmable current and voltage regulator. It could be a switching regulator. The first would need to dissipate about 1.5A x 5V = 7.5 watts The second 1 watt. 2. What is the hardware that calculates the power consumption? Does it simply read the battery voltage and estimate the power used by the rate change in battery voltage? thanks gordon |
