replace a cooling fan???

I have a HP dv1000 pavilion and the fan went out, the one you can see
from underneath, I guess that would be the case fan, or is it combined
with a chip fan?
Anyway, the only only one I could find was a used one on eBay that sold
for $41.50 to someone else.
no local shops sell replacement parts for laptops.
Where is the best place to get a fan for my sick computer? I am
thinking mail-order but it's a big world to search through online so I
thought I would ask here!
Thanks much!
Ramey

Probably the best place to get one is from eBay.
Look with google first for a service manual for your laptop and from there
you get the correct part number for the fan, which makes the search easier
and you can be sure that you are getting the correct fan for your model/CPU
combination. Also, it will shoe you how to open the laptop and change it
yourself.

Yes, it is the same fan for the CPU. Have you tried cleaning the fan/cooler
from dust first, usually this helps a lot?

Re: replace a cooling fan???

Normally there is only one fan in a laptop; normally it's totally custom
and only available from the laptop maker's parts outlets, or perhaps on
E-Bay.

The fact that the fan doesn't run does not necessarily mean that the fan
is the problem, although it well may be.

To expand on this: many systems have cooling fans that are only
triggered when the system gets warm. It MIGHT not be a problem.

I got a replacement fan a few years ago for a A360 which has an unusual fan.
Eventually got in touch with a fan manufacturer and they sent me two f.o.c
They did almost every kind of fan you could think of but unfortunatley I
cannot remember the name of the firm. I found them with a long search using
google
