Orange squash vs Thinkpad 1160. Jury still out...

Hi,

My housemate spilt about 15-20ml of orange squash into his Thinkpad
1160.
The main board looks pretty dry but quite a bit must have got into the
keyboard. There is squash on the expanded ram (now removed) and in the
HDD enclosure on the bottom.

Left it to dry overnight but it wont power up. The battery charge light
comes on so am hoping it isn't totally screwed.

I am HOPING that it is just the keyboard that is knackered. Is there
anyway to bypass the on-off switch that runs through the keyboard
controller just to see if the machine powers up and is therefore worth
buying a new keyboard off of ebay?

Any other hint and tips on how to revive the machine?
Cheers

did you/your roommate attempt to power it up while it was "wet" if so
the damage is done (possibly) ... if not there maybe some chance of
reviving it...

I don't think so... think it was pretty dry when we 1st tried. Might
have been some on the expansion ram though.

The orange squash leaves a sugary residue on everything when dry. You should
have disassembled it and washed everything with distilled water. As for the
keyboard it is practically impossible to get it all out. It doesn't matter
if you tried to power it up there is power in the board all the time with
the battery in. It is probably all trashed.
